WIP Stradiot flag Pietro Duodi

Thought I'd have a quick break from painting Lancastrian flags so this my representation of the flag of Pietro Duodi commander of the Venetian stradiots at the battle of Fornovo.  I've been wanting to have a go at this and other flags from this battle for ages and will continue to spacing them between the Lancastrian flags. The figure is a 'westernised' stradiot from Perry miniatures and I've wanted some of these since the osprey book came out.  Since I've just finished a book on the life of Marullus; a stradiot officer in the service of Naples amongst others the figure was srying out to be painted; I've got to finish the horse though.

  3. Hi Oli, the book is Marullus Soldier poet of the renaissance and charts his progress from his families' escape from Constantinople till his death whilst going to fight Cesare Borgia. It's a good read and provides a decent history of the politics in mid to late 15th century Italy.

Surprisingly and though there are plenty of his poems in it, it doesn't really focus on them; just giving a discription of what was going on in the place when he wrote them. Chapters include Naples and the Tuscan War, The second Barons war and I liked the chapter on the capture of Otranto. I'd never heard of the book before and picked it up in a second hand shop in York; the author's Carol Kidwell; I couldn't tell you what it's availability is like. cheers Pete
