Burgundian Flags

I've added a few more highlights to this flag which i think gives it greater depth so quite happy with the result. the next one will  be the flag of the Ducal Guard. I've already attempted this flag twice and made a pigs ear of it so hopefully it'll be third time lucky.

Burgundian Flags

here's a couple of pics of my first Burgundian flag. this flag represents the personal standard of the 'Bastard' of Burgindy. the pictures haven't came out very good however i'll take some more when the lighting's better. there'll be more 15th century flags to come over the next few months as i'm planning on getting  started on some more wars of the Roses flags and a set of French flags from Louis XI tthrough to Louis XII. Thanks to Simon Chick for keeping the Burgundians on the agenda and helping  by providing several references including this facebook link https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bourgogne-Guerre-1363-1479/487640111280281?id=487640111280281&sk=photos_stream which is pretty inspirational, cheers Pete

More English Elizabethan Tudor Flags

I've added a few more flags to the 16th century English and made a couple of changes to the first flagsheet; the figure is from the excellent Crann Tara garrison troops command pack . there'll be another Elizabethan's Irish Wars  flagsheet to do once I decide which ones to paint and I'll probably  do a set covering the English commanders at the enterprise of Boulogne.  Cheers Pete

16th Century Irish

Not exactly the Italian Wars but at least the're 16th century. .... I've only got meself to blame for doing these as I've been  tempted by Crann Tara's re-release of the  Graven images Elizabethans and promising more to come. Thanks to Mr. Oliver Green for sending me  some pics of early Irish  flags; now I just need to buy some figures and paint a few flags for the English.  Does anyone know what Mountjoy's flag may have looke dlike?
cheers Pete

Crann Tara Elizabethans

I ordered a couple of sample packs of these figures and I'm pretty impressed with them. I'm planning on building a force of Elizabethans  to use with the 'To The Banners'   rules from Caliver books which for me work well for the mid to later renaissance. Hopefully Crann Tara's  planned future releases are as good as those  currently available; if so these will be the figures I'll be using

Giovanni delle bande Nere flagsheet

No body really knows what his flags looked like however here's my interpretation of the flags of Giovanni delle Bande Nere. My gut feeling is the yellow and black stripey one is the most likely however the others are based on coats of arms of Giovanni and the Pope. cheers Pete

French Italian Wars Flags

Here's my representation of the flags of Louis de Tremouille and Gaston de Foix. Tremouille's flag is taken from the siege of Dijon tapestry  a link can be found on Stuart Mulligan's website and Foix's banner is based on a contemporary etching of the battle of Ravenna.  Although Foix's arms have a red bull on a yellow field the etching clearly shows the field being darker than the bull, as it was pretty common in Italy to reverse colours I've went with the etching.

French Landsknechts

Here's a couple of pics representing the flags og the Landsknect  black Bands that were destroyed at Pavia. The flags are conjectural however look very effective when placed together.

Giovanni delle Bande Nere

Here's a couple of flags representing those flown by Giovanni delle Bande Nere. There's not much known about the flags flown by Giovanni , the first one's based on his coat of arms and the second one's the arms of Leo X mentor, uncle and employer to Giovanni.  I might do another two flags adding a black bend on a white field to the o the heraldry  however I'm not convinced that it would be very historical.

I also need to do a flag for the man himself; I've seen a medal produced shortly after his death with a badge that looks like an Imperial Roman shield design  and read somewhere that he had a  dragon motif on a purple background. when I decide I'll get cracking with that, cheers Pete

Flodden Reenactment

Here's a few pics of the reenactment of the Battle of Flodden  at Etal village today. Everyone was very friendly and it turned out to be a great day out; I'm looking at the Perry plastics now and wondering how much work it would take to convert them. Also  I'd like to thank everyone who posed for the pictures, cheers.

Battle of Agnadello 1509 IV

Standard of Niccolo di Pitigliano Venetian commander; I'm unsure whether to add a fringe to this flag or not so it's still a WIP, cheers Pete

Tuesday 16 July 2013

Battle of Agnadello 1509 III

Standard of Bartolomeo Liviana D'Alviano and the Venetian Cross, figures are TAG

Battle of Agnadello 1509 II

Here's some pics of the second Flag I've completed for the Venetians at Agnadello and once again credit goes to Massimo Predonzani for his research  into the design of this flag.  cheers Pete

Battle of Agnadello 1509

Here's my representation of the standard of Pietro Marquis Bourbon del  Monte Sante Maria which was captured by the Swiss at the Battle of Agnadello. I'll probably do a bit more work to this flag and add a bit more contrast to the blue to give it a bit more definition otherwise I'm pretty happy with it. Credit for the info on this flag goes to Massimo Predonzani whose site can be visited here http://stemmieimprese.it/2013/02/20/le-bandiere-veneziane-conquistate-dagli-svizzeri-nella-battaglia-di-agnadello-e-conservate-nel-museo-di-appenzell-2/#more-847 and the figure is from TAG. cheers Pete
