Here's a few pics of our first game of Donnybrook which we kept simple with no faction or house specific rules to get a feel for the rules. First impressions were excellent and played with 4 players with 4 units and a character or two each. the reload and new turn cards gave an air of unpredictability and the game was much more tactical than I'd imagined it would be. Next time we'll increase the range of the longbows and I won't charge the border horse against three units of Irish calivermen. |
Great photos, let me know what 'tweaks' you made to the rules
ReplyDeleteLooks to be a really fun game Pete.
ReplyDeleteReally got to pull my finger out and order a copy!!
Darrell.
Yeah, any advice on tweeks for the game would be very beneficial for everyone reading so I'd love to hear them. Just for the record, I'm thinking Perry's 40mm for my games.

Lovely miniatures and flags! Those pikemen - what make are they?
ReplyDelete@ black powder they're available from Crann Tara miniatures, they're the old graven images range I managed to purchase and am currently expanding :)
DeleteBeautiful pictures and figures, sounds like a great game!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great game, its a really interesting period to wargame
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments on the game; it looks like we'll be having another one this week so will post a few more pics after then.
ReplyDeleteSoren the figures are from crann tara and are a joy to paint as they are large and full of character. Graham the The modifications we thought might work were to increase the range for longbows and give a long range saving through for figures wearing metal armour who've been hit by black powder weapons to allow for shot proof breastplates etc. The game itself has no range modifiers so we thought anything over three quarters of the maximum range would be fair enough; we treat arquebus' as carbines. Oli I agree it's any interesting period with some colourful characters.
Thanks for that Pete.
DeleteI'm going to give it a try at come point as I've got a fancy for the Perry 40 mil Border Reiver stuff but have never had an excuse to buy 'em lol :>)
Darrell.
