Bande Nere flagsheet

Here's a pic of the finished Bande Nere flagsheet. I've gottta admit to having reservations about completing these flags however think they've come out canny and look the 'period'.  The flags are conjectural  as mentioned in an earlier post and I added the dice being thrown by the seated devil as I've seen this on a woodcut and it fit's with the idea of mercenaries.  cheers Pete

Bande Nere

conjectural flags based on information provided by Robbie Rodiss that an eye witness is recorded as stating that some o the black bande's captains had flags with 4 devils embroidered on them and the motto ;In dispecto tuo christo.

Battle of Caravaggio 1448

Here's a pic of Massimo Predonzani's new book  which is full of information on the mid 15th century armies of Milan and Venice and is now available from here  http://www.aciesedizioni.it  Just click on the Italian flag and follow the Libri link. It's just a shame that I can't read it;  just as well there's plenty pf pictures and google translate to help out. Anyway good look to Massimo and Marco the publisher and lets hope the book's a huge success and there's plenty more to come.

Battle of Piombino 1448

Here's some pictures pg Sigismondo Malatesta's army against Neapolitan troops at the siege of Piombino in 1448 taken from the Hesperis manuscript; which I think was completed in the 1460's. There's some interesting pictures of Italian infantry in action which if typical would  be an army list writers nightmare.

Basically the Italian infantry is intermixed with shield and spear armed  troops   in the from rank. these are supported by Pikemen with handgunners, crossbowmen and bowmen behind as well as swordsmen and javelin men ready to sortie out if given the opportunity.   cheers Pete

Burgundian Flags

I've added a few more highlights to this flag which i think gives it greater depth so quite happy with the result. the next one will  be the flag of the Ducal Guard. I've already attempted this flag twice and made a pigs ear of it so hopefully it'll be third time lucky.

Burgundian Flags

here's a couple of pics of my first Burgundian flag. this flag represents the personal standard of the 'Bastard' of Burgindy. the pictures haven't came out very good however i'll take some more when the lighting's better. there'll be more 15th century flags to come over the next few months as i'm planning on getting  started on some more wars of the Roses flags and a set of French flags from Louis XI tthrough to Louis XII. Thanks to Simon Chick for keeping the Burgundians on the agenda and helping  by providing several references including this facebook link https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bourgogne-Guerre-1363-1479/487640111280281?id=487640111280281&sk=photos_stream which is pretty inspirational, cheers Pete
